Elisabeth Ottebring

Inspiration often comes from nature and music is always present in the creative process. The expression Elisabeth is looking for is generosity, depth and contrast. The dark clay is decorated with light engobe and sometimes many layers of experimental glazes. She has chosen to work with earthenware clay that is fired to the sintering limit to get a durable ware that is still playful and retains the colors nicely.

Elisabeth uses dark earthenware clay that is wheel thrown. The pieces are covered with slip and screen printed motifs are added prior to the bisque firing. She uses images and drawings to create patterns and screen prints them onto a transfer paper using ceramic pigments. The ceramics are then coated in a clear glaze and fired at a high temperature. The dark clay shines through the white slip and creates depth, adding decoration in different layers gives more complexity to the surface.
